William Austin Carpenter, 79, of Washington, died on June 16, 2022, in his home. He was born on October 11, 1942, in Washington, a son of the late Austin and Laura Stahl Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter graduated from Triangle Tech with an Associate's Degree in heating, ventilation and air conditioning technology. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Mr. Carpenter served from March 31, 1960 until his honorable discharge on April 28, 1964, with the rank of Lance Corporal. For his service he was awarded the Rifle Sharpshooter's Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal. William worked for twenty-four years as a mechanic for Forbes Steel. He enjoyed golf, horseshoes, darts, cornhole and bowling. On February 11, 1966, he married the love of his life, Bonnie Cox, who survives. They were married for fifty-six years. Also surviving are a son, Bill (Heather) Carpenter, of Washington; two daughters, Melissa (Edward) Sasso, of Washington, and Dana Leeper, of Washington; eight grandchildren, Kip, Damyan, Kaitlyn, Jordan, Samantha, Kody, Xander, and Aubree; eight great grandchildren, Kami, Bradley, Callie, Austin, Reaghen, Alaina, Kolton, and Vincent; as well as many nieces and nephews. Deceased are three brothers, George Stahl, Raymond Carpenter, And Howard Carpenter; and a sister, Frances Morris. At the request of the deceased all services were private.
