Phyllis J. Staskiewicz, 91, of Washington, passed away peacefully, January 26, 2020 at Strabane Woods, surrounded by her family. She was born September 7, 1928, in Belle Vernon, a daughter of the late William Gauden and Elizabeth Livingston Gauden. Phyllis was a graduate of North Belle Vernon High School, and went on to earn her Registered Nursing degree from St. Margaret’s School of Nursing. A lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, she was a Christian Mother and a Eucharistic Minister. Phyllis was an accomplished artist, winning many awards for her prolific paintings, and was often commissioned for personal pieces of her art. On September 1, 1949, she married Dr. Bernard A. Staskiewicz, a Washington and Jefferson College professor, who preceded her in death on December 30, 2015. Surviving are two sons, Dr. Thomas (Alma) Staskiewicz of Mars, Charles (Elizabeth) Staskiewicz of Richland; three daughters, Gail Warner of Myrtle Beach, SC, Catharine Ann (John) Simpkins of Huntington, WV, Barbara Jean (Matt) Daniels of Canadensis, PA; a brother, Gary (Sue) Gauden of Denver, CO; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a brother, William Gauden. Friends will be received Friday, January 31, 2020 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the time of the Blessing Service at William G.
