Myrtle Christina Fischer, 95, of Washington, died on Saturday, January 13, 2018, in Carriage Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center, Spotsylvania, VA. She was born on February 25, 1922, in Washington, a daughter of the late William and Myrtle Welsh Scholten. Mrs. Fischer was a homemaker, and was a member of the First Lutheran Church. Myrtle volunteered for more than fifty years shop at the Washington Hospital, where she had been manager of the Gift Shop for many of those years. During her tenure, she worked in various capacities in the hospital auxiliary, including President, Secretary, and Treasurer. She loved her family, and spending time with them, was an avid bowler, playing on several leagues, and was an excellent cook. Myrtle loved the Lord. Mrs. Fischer’s husband, Kerwin Eldridge “Kirk” Fischer, died on December 15, 1999. Surviving, is a daughter, Susan J. Milligan, of Fredericksburg, VA; eight grandchildren, Bill, Kirk, and Jim Fischer, Jennifer Ross, Bill Milligan, Missy Kyer, Corina Kelley, and Lance Moore; numerous great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, including a niece, Janet Fischer, of Washington, two nephews, Bob Hessler, of Chambersburg, and Kirk Hessler, of Washington, and a cousin, Thelma Sonntag, of Washington. Deceased are a son, William George Fischer, and a sister, Berthamae Hessler. Friends will be received on Friday, January 19, 2018, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, January 20, 2018, with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Schott officiating. Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery.
