John A. (Lonnie) Manning, Jr. died Friday January 20, 2023 in his home, following a lifelong disdain of bad movies and disco music, as well as a touch of pancreatic cancer. His beloved daughter Lauren was at his side at the time of his passing. Lonnie was the first born child of Jack and Wilma Manning of Washington. He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, and attended Point Park College, before embarking on an eclectic professional career, that spanned everything from sales to electrical engineering, and at the time of his passing he was the proprietor of his own plastering business. Lonnie was blessed with a superior intellect, and was a voracious reader, and a gifted writer often lending his pen to satire and social commentary. On June 25, 1988, Lonnie married Penny Manning (nee Mounts), and together they raised their beloved daughters Caitlin (Will) Manning of Delaware and Lauren Manning of Canonsburg. Lonnie was a devoted husband and father, and mourned the loss of Penny with quiet dignity until the time of his own passing. In addition to his daughters, also left to cherish Lonnie’s memory are his siblings MaryEllen Manning, of Washington, Sid (Lisa) Manning, of Washington, and Joe (Lynn) Manning, of Washington; as well as his nephew Johnny Interval and niece Maggie Manning. Thomas Wolfe wrote that “we are born, we suffer and we die.” Lonnie would have found Mr. Wolfe to be a rather gloomy fellow, and he preferred the philosophy of Dr. E. Joseph Charny; “We are born, we laugh and we die”. Interment is private, and a memorial service is planned for the not too distant future. The family wishes to thank all of those who have sent their love and prayers. Arrangements are entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington.
