Gerald Frank “Barrell” Hay, 73, of Washington, died on April 6, 2023, in UPMC Montefiore Hospital. He was born on January 18, 1950 in Washington, a son of the late Russell Clair and Louise Moore Hay. Mr. Hay was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War. For his service he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, and his Expert M-16 Marksmanship Badge. Gerald was the owner and operator of Jerry’s Auto Repair. He was an avid Penn State, Miami Dolphins, and Pittsburgh Pirates fan, and he also enjoyed marksmanship. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his beloved grandchildren. On June 3, 1972, he married Joyce Diane Tustin, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Gerald Hay; a daughter, Marcie Unrue; two brothers, Russell Clair Hay, Jr., and Malcolm Vaughn Hay; a sisters, Mary Adams; five grandchildren, Kristen, Ashley, Jordan, Savannah, and Jerry; three great grandchildren, Noah, Carter, and Ronin; a special daughter-in-law, Betsy Hay; as well as many nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, Joseph Unrue; and two sisters, Deborah Hay and Vickie Marker. Friends and family are welcome on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. Burial in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, in Bridgeville, will follow. Military Rites will be accorded at the cemetery by the United States Army and Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
