Betty L. Riser

Betty L. Riser, 93, of Washington, died December 12, 2022, in Southmont, Presbyterian Senior Care, Washington. She was born May 21, 1929, in Morgantown, WV, the daughter of the late George Shaffer and Marguerite Waters O’Brien. She was raised by Theodore and Marguerite O’Brien. A graduate of Trinity High School, she retired from Washington Hospital, where she worked as a nurse’s aide. Betty was a member of the Glenn Street Free Methodist Church. She loved to read, to knit, play bingo and go to the casino. She enjoyed polka dancing when she was younger. On March 25, 1950, Betty married Victor William Riser, Sr., who died April 17, 2004. Surviving are two sons, Roger L. Riser (Barbara), of Meadowlands, and Kenneth E. Riser, of Washington; a daughter, Jo Ann Van Briggle (Bernard), of Washington; four grandchildren, Stephen Liggitt, Matthew Liggitt, Erica Lytton (Matt), and Amanda Scholato (Kirk); nine great-grandchildren, Kassy, Rileigh, Stephanie, Morgan, Evan, Aiden, Chelsea, Lorenzo, and Lexi; one great-great-grandchild, due in January; and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her son, Victor W. Riser, Jr., who died June 4, 2021, and siblings, Robert O’Brien, Norma Welsh, Dolores Johnson, Georgetta Keil, Richard O’Brien, and Barbara Mankey. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Glenn Street Free Methodist Church, 690 Glenn St, Washington, PA 1530; Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care, 835 S Main St, Washington, PA 15301; or Washington Area Humane Society, 1527 PA-136, Eighty-Four, PA 15330. Family and friends will be received Monday, December 19, 2022, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, the service will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow in Forest Lawn Gardens.
