Alvin “Mac” Carter, 84, of McDonald, died January 12, 2022, in Strabane Woods, Washington, He was born November 19, 1937, in Washington, the son of the late Alvin Dale and Ellen C. McCarrell Carter. Mac was a 1955 graduate of Hickory High School and spent his life farming and in sales for Growers Fertilizers. He was very involved in his community as a 4-H Leader, Director and VP of Canonsburg Mutual Fire Insurance Company, past Director of the Farm Bureau, board member of Farmland Preservation, member, and alumnus of FFA, member, director, and State Delegate of Washington County Holstein Association, board member of Mt. Prospect Cemetery Association, and participated in the annual Hickory Apple Festival. Mac was an active member of his church, Hickory United Evangelical Presbyterian Church, serving as Elder and on multiple committees. He enjoyed watching Penn State sports, but his greatest love was farming. On November 9, 1996, Mac married Sheila Gary Phillips, who survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Connie (Rick) Weaver; two sons, Donald Carter, and Ronald (Amy) Carter; stepdaughters, Robin (Tom) Ranager, Jymme McQuillan, Christie (Chester) Hoffman, and Sherry Foster; brother, Jay D. Carter; sister, Lois Anne Risser; grandchildren, Megan (Jerry) Hickman, Morgan Weaver, Michele (Slade) Waller, Riley Carter, and Regan Carter; numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren Ayden Horr, Brayden Hickman, and Brooklyn Hickman; and several nieces and nephews. Mac was preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha Lou “Sis” Corwin, who died February 23, 1995; and brother T. Lee Carter. Family and friends will be received Sunday, January 16, 2022, from 2pm – 8pm, in Hickory United Evangelical Presbyterian Church, and Monday, January 17, from 9am-11am, the time of service, with Pastor Douglas Reinard officiating.
