Clarence "Red" Megyesy, Sr.

Clarence M. “Red” Megyesy, Sr., 79, of Washington, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2009, surrounded by loved ones. A son of the late John A. and Ida May Megyesy, he was born February 16, 1930, in Washington, where he was raised. Mr. Megyesy married Mona Lea Marker Reed on March 19, 1949, and enjoyed 60 years of partnership. They made their home and raised three children in Burgettstown. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. He later became a member of the Church of North America, where he served as an elder and Sunday School teacher. And, for the past 25 years, he attended church at Central Assembly of God in Houston, where he taught Sunday School and served as an usher. Though he held many jobs, his main employment was with J&L Steel as an electrician, from 1948 through 1983. He then moved to Washington and worked as a school bus driver for Canon-McMillan School District, retiring in 1994 after ten years of service. Mr. Megyesy enjoyed motorcycle riding, hunting and, most of all, reading his Bible and sharing his love of the Lord. Surviving are his wife, Mona Lea Megyesy; three children, Mona May Megyesy of Washington, Clarence M. (Noi) Megyesy, Jr., of Joffre, and Nancy L. (Joe) Koraido of Burgettstown; two grandchildren, Sandy N. (Skip) Garvin of Avalon and Lisa M. (Jason) Schwallon of Scott Township; two great granddaughters, Emily Jayne and Caitlyn Jai; a brother, John E. (Rose) Megyesy of Connecticut; a sister, Ida M. (Ben) Rusciolelli of Philadelphia. Deceased are a brother Norman J. Megyesy, and a sister-in-law, Delores Megyesy. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held from 10 till 11 a.m., the hour of service, Friday, September 4th, in Central Assembly of God Church, Houston, with Pastor Stephen Getchell and Pastor Kurt Jenkins co-officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Central Assembly of God, “Partners in the Journey” Fund, 155 McGovern Road, Houston PA 15342; Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301; or to Washington City Mission, 84 West Wheeling Street, Washington PA 15301.
