Mabel Genevie McVay McGary, 86, of Washington, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, in the Washington Hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Washington on November 23, 1922, a daughter of Jay P. and Carrie Adams McVay. Mrs. McGary had attended Washington Schools and worked several years in the housekeeping department of Washington county Health Center.
For many years she attended Friendship Community Church of Washington. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandparent. According to her sons, she was their best friend and the best mother anyone could ever ask for. She brought smiles and laughter to all she met.
On May 31, 1947, she married William A. McGary who died on March 18, 1972.
She is survived by three sons, John A. ( Sue ) , Earl J. ( Pam ) , and Robert G. McGary, all of Washington; a brother Archie L. McVay of San Bernadino, CA; grandchildren, Amanda Nicole, Brittany Allison, and John William McGary, Rick DeMarco, Billi Jo Powell, and Bobbi Jo McMillan; great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Connor McMillan, Abbey and Audrey Powell, Rachel and Chloe DeMarco; and a great-great-grandchild Kendra McGary.
Preceding her in death are a son, William L. McGary; brother Raymond McVay, and sisters, Glenetta Gregg, as well as Beatrice and Lorina who died in infancy.
Friends of Mabel Genevie McVay McGary, 86, of Washington, who died Wednesday, December 31, 2008, will be received on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 2:00 PM, Rev. Floyd Marasco officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. The family is requesting memorial donations be made to the Kidney Foundation, 30 E. 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
