Katherine Kanzius, 86, 0f Washington, died on Friday, December 19, 2003 in the Canonsburg Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born in McDonald on November 6, 1917 a daughter of John and Mary Kashurak Orenchuk. She was a member of the St. John’s Orthodox Church in Canonsburg and was a member of the Ladies Alter Society. Mrs. Kanzius enjoyed Crocheting, Sewing, Gardening, and Baking having baked the Communion Bread for her church for many years.
On January 31, 1937 she married Silvester J. Kanzius who died on April 6, 1975.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph and his wife Ann Kanzius of Washington; John and his wife Maryann Kanzius of Erie; Three daughters, Marie Guidos-Maruskin and her husband Albert Maruskin of Washington; Sophia and her husband Larry Daniels of Greensburg; Jane and her husband Gregory Shamitko of Washington; two brothers, John and Harry Orenchuk, both of Burgettstown; fifteen grandchildren, Anne Guidos Opachick, Dr. Paul Guidos, Lori Guidos, Robert Guidos, Lynn Geer, Beth Maruskin, Sherri Kanzius, Tony Palmer, Rebecca Sexton, Dr. John Daniels, Natalie Shamitko, Gregory Shamitko, Michael Kanzius, Amy Bassford, and Daniel Kanzius as well as eleven great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are five brothers, Steve, Russell, Michael, Peter, and Dan Orenchuk.
Friends of Katherine Kanzius, 86, of Washington who died on Friday, December 19, 2003 will be received on Sunday from 12 to 8 PM in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 22, 2003 at 10:00 AM in St. John’s Orthodox Church, Canonsburg, Rev. Joseph Oleynik Celebrant. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery. The family requests memorial donations be made to: St. John’s Orthodox Church Building Fund, 601 Boone Avenue, Canonsburg, 15317.
