Joseph R. "Wrong Way" Cunningham, 56, of Washington, died at 2 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, in his home, following a five-and-a-half-month illness. He was born November 20, 1947, in Steubenville, Ohio, a son of Carmela (Connie) Castelluzzo Cunningham of Washington and Reet Cunningham Jr., who died May 14, 1975. Mr. Cunningham was a graduate of Trinity High School. He drove truck for many years and was last employed by Overnite Transportation for 18 years as a mechanic and driver before becoming ill. Mr. Cunningham served in the U.S. Army for four years, serving in Vietnam and receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device and Sharp Shooter Medal. He was a member of Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175 of Washington. Mr. Cunningham enjoyed feeding birds and being with his grandchildren. On April 26, 1968, he married Sandra Kay Reed, who survives. In addition to his mother and wife, surviving are a son, Joseph R. Cunningham Jr. of Amity; a daughter, Michelle Lynn Stollar of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, Dennis Cunningham of Washington; two sisters, Debra and Cathy Cunningham, both of Washington; three grandchildren, Kayla Nicole and Hunter Daniel Stollar and Jessica Renee Cunningham; and three nieces and two nephews.
