30-year employee of Suwak Trucking Co. was WWII vet. Phillip George Gallagher Sr., 81, of Washington, died at 10:14 a.m. Saturday, December 2, 2006, in his daughter's Canonsburg home. He had been ill for 41�2 years. He was born October 1, 1925, in Washington, a son of Harry T. and Margaret C. Moore Gallagher. He was a member of Broad Street Baptist Church. Mr. Gallagher was a mechanic supervisor at Suwak Trucking Co. for 30 years. Prior to that, he worked at Yenko Chevrolet. He was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 22 and Legion of the Moose and was a past commander, commander of the firing squad and a liaison of Sons of the American Legion. Mr. Gallagher attended Washington schools and was a life member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8319, a member of the Forty and Eight Voiture Locale 676, life member of Anawana Hunting and Fishing Club, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War in the Pacific Theater, receiving the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal. He was referred to by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as "Pap Pap Pencils." On March 25, 1953, he married Shirley Gail Lewis, who died April 1, 1993. Surviving are his companion, Mary Jane Boardley, a son, Phillip G. Gallagher Jr. and wife Stacy, and two daughters, Linda Lea Wirtz and husband John, all of Washington, and Cindy Craig and husband Jeff of Canonsburg; a brother, Robert L "Squirrel" Gallagher; a sister, Norma J. Wise Bilby and husband Robert, all of Washington; grandchildren Kimberlea Lehew and husband John Przystup, Michelle Lehew Moore and fiance Jack Curie, Jodi Craig and husband Dean Shober, Brandon Craig and fiance Nicki Conaway, Shawn and Ryan Gallagher and Danielle Saccucci; and great-grandchildren Ian and Devin Przystup, Dakotah Moore, Ethan, Macie and Jalyn Shober, Hayley and Emma Conaway and Christian and Savannah Saccucci. Deceased are two sisters, Viola Anderson and Ruth Cholak; and two brothers, John Andrew (Andy) Gallagher and Harry "Bud" Gallagher. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 5, with the Rev. Roger Raymond Fischer, sharing with Pastor Gary Gibson, followed by interment in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
