Taught Latin and science at Washington High School.
Wayne Metheny, 65, of Washington, died Sunday, August 20, 2006, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He had been in declining health since 1985.
He was born March 25, 1941, in Bruceton Mills, W.Va., a son of Edna Robertson Metheny of Meadville and the late Jerome Buzzard Metheny.
Mr. Metheny graduated from Meadville High School in 1959, was a graduate of Penn State University and received his master's degree from North Carolina A&T State University. He also attended Shiloh Bible College.
He taught Latin and science for 29 years at Washington High School, where he was rifle coach.
Mr. Metheny was a member of Allison Avenue Baptist Church and enjoyed reading the Bible.
He was a member of Pennsylvania State Education Association.
On August 1, 1964, he married Dorothy Ermacoff, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Dana Metheny of Morgantown, W.Va., and Dawn Metheny of Wilkes-Barre; a brother, Russell Metheny, and a sister, Edna Mae Mook, both of Meadville; and a grandchild, Gabe Shultz.
There will be no visitation or services. The family suggests memorial contributions to Multiple Sclerosis Society, 3005 Banksville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15216. Arrangements are by William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.
