World War II vet enjoyed traveling and eating out.
Earl William Meeks Sr., 80, of Washington, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2007, in Donnell House, Washington, following a one-month illness. He was born April 22, 1926, in Washington, as son of John and Hazel Gray Meeks. He was employed by B.F. Drakenfield and later by Ciba Geigy as a technician. He attended Washington High School and enjoyed traveling and eating out. During World War II, he served in Company D, 772nd Military Police Battalion, and received the World War II Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175. In 1948, he married Frieda P. Greene, who died February 23, 1972. Surviving are a son, Earl William Meeks Jr. and wife Joyce A. of Washington; two brothers, Bill and wife Rita Meeks of Washington and Richard and wife Nancy Meeks of Elyria, Ohio; a sister, Hazel Lou and husband Terry Mayne of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a brother, John Meeks, and two sisters, Thelma Kress and Betty McClure.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 8, followed by interment in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
