Anthony (Tony) Romano

Anthony “Tony” Romano, 83, of Washington, died Tuesday, August 14, 2007, in Donnell House. He had been ill since May. He was born July 14, 1924, in Wyatt, West Virginia, a son of Felix and Luczeria Grace Allawot Romano. During World War II, Mr. Romano served as a private in the United States Army. He saw action in Western Europe and earned the European Theater of Operation Ribbon with two battle stars. Mr. Romano worked at Hazel-Atlas #1 for twenty years and then at Pennsylvania Transformer for twenty years. He was a member of St. Hilary Church and the Pulaski Club and enjoyed fishing, going out to dinner, being with his nieces and nephews, and having cookies and coffee at JoAnn and Mike’s house. Surviving are a brother, Sam (Beverly) Romano of Washington; two sisters, Frances (deceased Albert) Zacour, with whom he made his home, and JoAnn (Mike) Kolycheck of Washington; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Frank Romano and Dominic Romano; one sister, Theresa Urso; and a nephew, James Zacour. Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2007, in St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church, Washington, with Rev. Thomas D. O’Neil as celebrant. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion. Memorial donations may be made to Donnell House, Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
