Dorothy Frances Lavender, 91, died Saturday, October 14, 2006, in Winter Park, Florida.
She was born May 18, 1915, in Braddock, PA, a daughter of Charles and Roberta Dessauer.
In 1921, she moved to Media, PA and later graduated from Media High School. She was an office worker for Westinghouse Electric in Lester, PA until her marriage to Stanley C. Lavender in 1938. They remained happily together until his death in 1997. Primarily a homemaker until the 1960’s, she worked as Upper Providence Township Manager. In 1980, Dorothy and Stan retired to Orlando, Florida.
An avid duplicate bridge player, she achieved the ranking of “Life Master.â€쳌 She was a member of the American Contract Bridge League.
Surviving are her daughters, Janet Hamilton of California, Fran Marlin of Florida, Stanley Lavender Jr. of Rhode Island, and Charles Lavender of Pennsylvania. She has 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Also, she is survived by a sister, Charlotte Brown of Texas.
Deceased are her husband Stanley, two brothers Herbert, and Arthur, and two sisters Louisa, and Jane.
Friends will be received 10 am to noon, Friday October 20 in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, Pa 15301. Burial will follow in the family plot at the Washington Cemetery.
