Joan Susan “Sue” Vankirk, 63, of Washington, died Sunday, February 7, 2009, in The Washington Hospital.
She was born October 5, 1946, in Washington, a daughter of Dale E. Campbell of Washington and the late Milena Chehovin Campbell.
Sue was a 1964 graduate of Trinity High School and attended West Penn to become an obstetric assistant. She was employed by Dr. Fagioletti for many years and had also worked at Things Remembered.
Sue enjoyed bowling and ceramics and was an avid NASCAR and Steelers fan. She was a great cook and baker.
Sue was a member of the Red Hat Society.
She was Presbyterian by faith.
On August 20, 1976, she married Thomas M. Vankirk, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Bradley (Linda) Vankirk of Washington; two stepdaughters, Cynthia Vankirk and Stephanie Vankirk, both of Perryopolis; a sister, Sharon L. (David B.) Clapper of Meyersdale; six grandchildren, Angela, Melissa, B.J., Jason, Nicole and Antoinette; and two great-grandchildren, Alexa and Tyler.
Deceased is a son, Scott Allen Grossman.
A gathering of friends will be held from 3 to 4 p.m., the time of a memorial service, Thursday, February 11th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, with Pastor Robert Vankirk officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Washington Youth Baseball, Attn. Dan Brown, P.O.
