Dr. Joseph Clarence Weimer, 90, of Washington, died on Monday, June 12, 2017, in the Washington Hospital.
He was born on June 28, 1926, in Bronxville, NY, a son of the late Joseph, and Elizabeth Stahl Weimer.
After graduating from Mt. Lebanon High School, he joined the U.S. Navy, then the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He retired as a Colonel, after serving in the military reserves for thirty years.
Dr. Weimer began Premed at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, and graduated Cum Laude from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He interned at Philadelphia General Hospital, completed a four-year surgical residency at Edward Hines, Jr. Veterans Administration, in Maywood, IL, and took his oral and written surgical boards at Johns Hopkins University, for a FACS, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Joseph worked as a flight surgeon for the Air National Guard, and was head of the dispensary for the Air National Guard #171 First Air Refueling Wing. Dr. Weimer worked as a General Surgeon at St. Clair Hospital, Mercy Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital, and Jefferson Hospital.
An avid outdoorsman, and fly fisherman, who tied his own flies, he enjoyed golf, hunting pheasant and grouse, and was a terrific poker player.
A kind and gentle soul, he will be sorely missed.
On June 13, 1953, he married Lillian Mokry, who survives. They celebrated sixty-four wonderful years of marriage.
Also surviving are a son, Paul Weimer, of Washington; a daughter, Karen Weimer (Louis) LaLama, of Moon Township; two grandchildren, Lauren Weimer, and Geoffrey Weimer, both of Harrisburg; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Zug Weimer, of Harrisburg; a niece, Dr. Ruth (Dr. Michael) Ramsey, of Chicago; a nephew, Dr. James Godwin, of Texas.
Deceased is a son, Robert Weimer, and two sisters, Delores Godwin, and Mary Platt.
Services and burial in Queen of Heaven Cemetery are private, and will be held at the convenience of the family.
