Charles Edward “Ted” Flickinger, Jr., 86, of McLean, VA, formerly of Claysville, PA, died Sunday, June 5, 2017.
He was born December 8, 1930 in Erie, PA, the son of the late Charles E. Flickinger Sr. and Evelyn “Peg” Hastings.
Ted grew up in Altoona, PA; graduated from Penn State and Yale Universities, served in the U.S. Army, worked in communications for the Central Intelligence Agency, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh, and Peoples Natural Gas, and as an educator (primarily English) for several high schools and community colleges in the tri-state area.
He had been active in the Buffalo Creek Watershed group, and enjoyed tennis, woodworking, the outdoors, birding, music and conga drumming, and fine arts.
Ted was the husband of the late June Anderson Flickinger for 45 years. Sister of Susan Flickinger Rouse of Fredericksburg, VA; father of Charles E. Flickinger, III of Nellysford, VA; Mark Flickinger of St. Petersburg, FL; Valerie Flickinger Sayd of Falls Church, VA and grandfather of Nya Flickinger and Samia and Ayla Sayd.
Friends will be received Sunday, June 11, 2017 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm, at William G. Neal Funeral Home, 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held Monday, June 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Jefferson Memorial Park.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Lewinsville Retirement Residence, 1515 Great Falls St., McLean, VA.
