Raymond Hamilton Patterson

Raymond Hamilton Patterson, 83, of Eighty-Four, died on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, in his home. He had been in declining health for the past few years. He was born on March 21, 1934, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Alvin M. Patterson, and Frances H. Patterson. Mr. Patterson lived most of his life on the family farm, which was Century Farm, and registered in the Historical Registry. Raymond attended school at Sumney-Ginger Hill and Venetia, graduating from Trinity High School in 1952, and also receiving his FFA State Farmer Degree. He was instrumental in organizing the Nottingham Agricultural 4-H Club in 1946. He and his parents operated a dairy farm, and were breeders of registered jersey cattle for forty-five years. He and his wife, Mary Jane, were breeders of registered Morgan horses, Shetland ponies, and commercial beef cattle. Mr. Patterson was also a member of the Washington County Livestock Association, and had worked with the Washington County 4-H, and FFA Youth, at the local level, at livestock auctions and fairs. In 1953, he graduated from the Grand Scientific Breeding School of America. In 1957, he graduated from the Reppert School of Auctioneering, being appointed to the PA State Board of Auctioneers by Governor Robert Casey. He also held an auctioneer’s license in Ohio and West Virginia. In addition to the farm and auctioneering, he held a PA Real Estate license with VanVoorhis Agency in Finleyville, for forty-two years. From 1952 to 1966, Mr. Patterson was a local committeeman with the USDA. Mr. Patterson was a former member of the Mt. Prospect United Presbyterian Church in Thomas, PA; a former member and trustee of Wright’s United Methodist Church in Venetia; and a current member of the North Buffalo United Presbyterian Church in Washington. Raymond was an avid fundraiser for the NRA, charitable organizations, and area churches. He was a member of the Chartiers F&AM Tall Cedars Lodge #149, in Washington, Pittsburgh Consistory, Ginger Hill Protective Association, as well as many other fraternities and organizations. Surviving are his wife of twenty-five years, Mary Jane Myers Patterson; a son, Raymond Keith (Jean) Patterson, of Moore, SC; a daughter, Karen Mae (Philip) Neubauer, of Washington; a sister, Doris A. (Tom) Siler, of Eighty-Four; two nephews, Robert Thomas Siler, and Scott A. Siler, of Eighty-Four; three step children, John (Lois) Miller, of Avella, Teresa (Tony) Mirisciotta, and Brenda (Robert) Megyesy, of Washington; twelve grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren. Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a grandson, Adam Clark. Friends will be received on Friday, March 31, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, April 1, 2017, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Masonic Services will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 31, 2017, in the funeral home. Burial will follow in West Alexander Cemetery.
