Alberta was born March 13, 1933, in Washington. She led an active life, working at a young age. Her first job was at Hazel Atlas, followed by Jessop Steel, then ARC of Washington, where she was a housemother. Her favorite job was as the “Lunch Lady” at Blaine-Buffalo Elementary School, a job she held for over 20 years. In retirement, she worked as a bus monitor for special-needs children.
Her family kept her plenty busy, but she still found time to crochet and play bingo and to be involved with American Legion 907 Auxiliary, Ladies of the Elks, Buffalo Grange, and Lagonda Homemakers. In addition she assisted with funeral dinners and making banners at Taylorstown Presbyterian Church, where she was a member since 1954, was involved with activities at Friendship Community Church, and enjoyed many adventures, misadventures and trips with the Red Hatters.
Bertie’s absence will be felt at Wednesday’s lunch with family, by those she walked the mall with, by friends she visited at Bellmead, and of course, by her adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with whom she loved to play.
Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 30th, with Pastor Rick Bruckner officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
