Virginia L. Canan

Virginia “Ginny” Canan, 89 of Washington passed away on January 15, 2016 in Paramount Senior Living in Peters Township, surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 23, 1926 in Fayette County, and had resided in Fayette and Washington Counties all of her life. She was the daughter of the late Edna Moore Davidson and John Davidson of Fayette County, Pennsylvania. She was a 1944 graduate of Redstone High School, Republic, Pennsylvania and a 1947 graduate of Washington Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed in the obstetrics department of Washington Hospital until she retired in 1982. She was a member of the Church of the Covenant and Washington Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. She loved to crochet and made afghans for many family special occasions. On June 6, 1949, she married William “Bill” Canan in the First Christian Church of Washington. Together they did flea markets, which they both loved, for 40 years. Surviving are her husband, William Canan; a son, Douglas (Joanne) Canan of Moon Township; two daughters, Donna (Ed) Sukel of Washington and Linda Canan (Mark) Stephens of Burke, VA; eight grandchildren, Kristy (Andy) Bilderback, Katie (Doug) Rizzo, Ben (Keira) Canan; twins, Brooke (Kevin) Dobson and Brittany (Jason) Pinney, Zachary Stephens, Annie Stephens and Stephen Osborn; five great grandchildren, Anna and Liam Bilderback, Madelyn Dobson, Myla and Lucas Pinney. She was the last of her immediate family. Deceased are her parents; brothers, Jack and Roy Davidson; sisters, Sally Butera, Ruth Bleiler and Merle Darroch. Friends will be received Monday, January 18, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington where services will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Burial will be private at Claysville Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Washington City Mission, 92 N. Main St, Washington, PA 15301.
