Bennie “Uncle Bennie” Watson, Sr., 93, of Washington, passed away September 20, 2014, in Presbyterian Senior Care.
He was born May 28, 1921, in Wilkins, West Virginia, a son of the late James Watson and Louise Watson Johnson.
Mr. Watson attended Trinity High School prior to employment at Civilian Conservation Corps in Tennessee. Upon his return to Washington, he became involved with and eventually became the owner/operator of Watson’s General Hauling, retiring in 1997. He was an avid fan of Pittsburgh sports and Washington High School sports.
Mr. Watson is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Dorothy Mae Fleet Watson; two sons, Bennie Watson Jr. and Tyrone L. Watson, both of Washington; a granddaughter, Phoenix Watson; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
He was the last of his immediate family.
Deceased are three brothers, Sam Watson, James Watson and Edward Watson Johnson; and three sisters, Anna Lipscomb, Susan Thompson and Carrie Ellis.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staffs of Amedysis, UPMC Cancer Center, Washington Hospital, Presbyterian Senior Care and Washington Internal Medicine for the special attention and care they provided to Mr. Watson. They also wish to thank his nieces, Sandra Naylor Walker, Beverly Chandler Aku, Frances Ellis Gardner and Louise Lipscomb for their everlasting love and care.
There will be no public visitation. Private interment will be held in Washington Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 4th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Elder Jones officiating.
