Steven Albert Lukas, 87, of Amity, died Thursday, August 21, 2014, in The Washington Hospital.
He was born October 16, 1926, in Bentleyville, a son of Joseph Lukas and Mary Andrusak Lukas.
Mr. Lukas served in the Army during World War II. He worked as a coal miner at Bethlehem Mines’ Ellsworth Mine 51, retiring after 31 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved gardening, especially vegetable gardening.
Mr. Lukas was a member of the Church of Christ.
On June 28, 1957, he married Mildred K. Riggs, who died August 11, 2005.
Surviving are a son, James A. (Debra) Lukas of Washington; a daughter, Barbara A. (William) Leger of South Fayette Township; a brother, Paul (Virginia) Lukas of Washington; eight grandchildren, James S. Lukas, Stephanie Leger, William Leger, Daniel Leger, Christina Lukas, Matthew Leger, John Lukas, and Joseph Lukas; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three brothers, John, Joe and Andrew Lukas; and four sisters, Mary Hegedus, Julie Osoba, Anne Kulla and Helen Maloy.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 27th. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
