It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wilma V. (Winters) Myers, who left us peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at the age of 87. Born to Clara Fattman Winters and Roy P. Winters in Washington, Wilma was a bright, determined, and independent woman who lived life to the fullest. She didn’t know a stranger and made friends everywhere. People admired her honesty, integrity and absolute joy of life. Wilma grew up on Lawrence Avenue in Tylerdale, she was proud of her roots. She attended Clark School, where her father was the janitor. She graduated from Washington High School, class of 1955, and began her professional journey at Bell Telephone. Her hard work, intellect and dedication earned her a position in Pittsburgh, where she continued to excel. In a twist of fate, Wilma met her future husband and love of her life, Richard Myers, on a blind date. They were married six months later in a heartfelt ceremony at Trinity Episcopal Church and built a loving life together. Wilma was a devoted mother to her two children, Ann Marie Myers Insana and Richard Myers. Wilma’s career began at Lawrence Shoe Store as a sales associate and Tiger Valley Glass Company as a secretary. She later served as a administrative assistant to the guidance counselor at Washington High School, where she built very strong and long lasting relationships with her colleagues. Beyond her professional achievements, Wilma had a zest for life that included her gym workouts, swimming and love for gardening. She was also an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates. She enjoyed taking long walks throughout the city of Washington. She cherished watching her grandson, Corbin Myers play high school football, baseball and hockey. She was also a big fan of her grandson, Richard Myers, as he pursued black belt degrees in Tae Kwon-Do. A true adventurer at heart, she traveled to Europe and explored the breathtaking views of the Grand Canyon. Wilma is survived by her husband, Richard Myers; her children and spouses, Ann Marie Myers Insana and James Insana and Richard Myers and Lisa Desmond Myers; and beloved grandchildren Richard and Corbin Myers, who brough immense joy to her life. She also leaves behind cherished memories of riding on the handlebars of her big brother, Roy Winters’ bicycle. Wilma was not only a wonderful mother and wife but also a source of confidence and inspiration for her children. Her legacy of love, laughter and resilience will forever be remembered by all who knew her. Family and friends are welcome from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with a memorial service to immediately follow at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Jim Miorell officiating. Rest in peace, dear Wilma.
