William E. "Bill" Lindsay Jr.

October 5, 1943 — January 23, 2025

William “Bill” E. Lindsay Jr. died January 23, 2025. He was born October 5, 1943, in Washington, a son of William E. and Margaret Gorby Lindsay. Bill attended local grade schools, Wolfdale and Clark. His family moved to South Carolina, where he attended Hillcrest High School and excelled in baseball and football. He graduated from Brookland-Cayce High School in Columbia, South Carolina. He also attended Robert Morris College in Pittsburgh. After high school, Bill moved back to Washington, where he worked for Caldwell Department Store for a short period of time. In January 1963, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served in Naval Aviation during the Vietnam Era. He was honorably discharged in 1967, after four years. After his tour in the Navy, he went to work at Jessop Steel Co. (ATI), where he made his career in various positions, spending 10 years as a payroll manager. He later worked for C.R. Hobbs and Sons Contractors doing home improvement. His last place of employment was J.C. Penny’s where he worked in the men’s department for nine years. Bill loved all Pittsburgh sports, especially the Steelers and Pirates. One of his great joys was he was lucky enough to have attended a Super Bowl and World Series game with his buddy, Gordo Ware. He was a member of the Pulaski Club and American Legion Post 175, where he liked hanging with his “breakfast club” buddies trying to solve the world’s problems (lost cause never solved one). He loved music, especially The Eagles, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Van Morrison, Pearl Jam, Frank Sinatra, and most rock and roll and big band. Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Michael Lindsay, formerly of Washington. He leaves behind a brother, Kirk Lindsay; two daughters, Lori Ross and Renee Lindsay, both of Florida; a grandson, Eric Ross; a granddaughter, Lindsay and her husband Justin Blumberg; a great-grandson, Miles Blumberg; a nephew, Connor and his wife Sammy Lindsay; and a niece, Jessica and husband Mike Wise. Bill’s best friend until the end was Gary Karluk. He also left behind his soulmate, Janine Friend of Washington, with whom he resided with for the past 30 years. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2025, in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Chartiers Township. All attending should meet at the cemetery.
