William C. Knox, 89, of Washington passed away on September 1st, 2018 at Washington Hospital.Born on August 17, 1929 in West Orange, NJ, he was the son of William and Kathryn (McCauley) Knox. On August 20, 1955, he married the late Zoe Lorraine Kern. He was a 1954 graduate of Washington & Jefferson College. During his time at W&J, he was a member of the men’s basketball team. He went on to be inducted into the Washington-Greene chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame (1999) and later served as the chapter’s Executive Committee Chairman. Bill made his career in sales with Ligget & Myers, spending nearly forty years with the company until his retirement in 1994.He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and enjoyed attending W&J, Wash High football games as well as Washington Wild Things baseball games. He also enjoyed spending time gardening. Surviving are four sons: William K. (Sherri) Knox of South Park, PA; David (Darlene) Knox of Huntsville, AL; Stephen (Becky) Knox of Washington, PA and Jeffrey (Robin) Knox of Haddonfield, NJ. In addition to his children, also surviving are fifteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren: Beth (Jake) Barakat; Lisa Knox (David McCaslin); Kristie (CJ) DeJuliis; William J.(Bethany) Knox; Marc Knox; Robert Knox; Patrick Knox; Michael Knox; Jacob Knox; Jenny Knox; Elizabeth Knox; Thomas Knox; Kathryn Knox; Andrea (Danny) Harper; Jennifer Knox; Aveigha DeJuliis; William V. Knox; Savino DeJuliis; Aubrey Harper; and Austin Harper.In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two children, a daughter, Sherri Knox and a son, Douglas Knox. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Friends will be received on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, September 5, 2018. Burial will follow in the Washington Cemetery.
