William "Fred" Kaste

William Frederick “Fred” Kaste, 88, of McDonald, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025, in Presbyterian SeniorCare, Southmont in Washington. He was born September 29, 1936, in Coal Center, a son of the late Raymond and Naomi Kraeer Kaste. Fred attended Chartiers-Houston schools, but the family moved his senior year, and he graduated from Union High School in 1955. He was a member of Hickory UEP Church and a lifetime member of Mt. Pleasant Township VFD, where he was on the Apple Festival Committee for many years. He was a former member of Hickory Lions Club. In his younger years, he enjoyed coaching Pony League and Colt League baseball where his teams participated in the Ten Mile Valley League. He also bowled in various local men’s and couples bowling leagues. Fred was employed by the former Lorenzi Lumber Company in Washington, from where he retired in 2002. After retirement, he worked for the Mt. Prospect Cemetery and drove a school van for Jake Schneider Bus Contractor. On June 15, 1957, he married Beverly Sheller Kaste, who survives. Also surviving are a son, James (Lorraine) Kaste of Burgettstown; a granddaughter, Amanda (Cody Ford) Kaste of Texas; four sisters, Mary Frye of Clearwater, Fla., Gladys (Clarence) Wier of Sharpsville, Norma (Thomas) McKnight of Lancaster, South Carlina and Nancy (Jim) Matijevich of Burgettstown; two sisters-in-law, Corky (Dave) Narigon of Hickory and Connie (Bill) Kiehl of Chartiers Township; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Paul Frye, and his in-laws, Howard and Adeline Sheller. At the request of the deceased, arrangements are private and entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Homes., Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.
