Wayne Edgar DeBee, a resident of Wolfdale, passed away at 4:39 p.m., on March 16, 2023, at the age of 79. He had been in declining health for some time. His passing is mourned by all who knew him. He was born on February 28, 1944, in Fayetteville, NC, as a military brat to Edgar and Evelyn McGaffic DeBee. A graduate of Canon McMillan High School, he was a member of the Meadowlands Sportsmans Club for many years, as well as the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion. Mr. DeBee was a proud veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War, from September 6, 1961, until his honorable discharge, with the rank of Private First Class, on September 8, 1964. His last duty assignment and major command was with the Sixth Army Headquarters and Headquarter Company First Battalion Twelfth Infantry at Fort Lewis, Washington state. Following his discharge from the Army, Wayne went to work for the United States Post Office. He was employed there for thirty years as a dedicated letter carrier. Wayne was a man who took great pride in his work, and he always went above and beyond to make sure his customers received their mail in a timely manner. In his earlier years, Wayne loved to spend time in the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping with his two sons. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers and Penguins. Wayne is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years, Cindy; five children, Bruce, Bill (Nicole), Waynette, Eddie, and Wayne, Jr.; a brother, William “Bill” (Belinda) DeBee; a sister, Elaine Bosworth; a very special person, whom he claimed as his daughter, Lisa Dimit; his grandchildren, who will deeply miss him, Ethan, Morgan (his sweet pea), Casimere, Banks, Wyatt, Roman and Christopher; a great granddaughter, Lillie; and several nieces and nephews. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Friends and family are welcome on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 23, 2023. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Full military honors will be accorded graveside by the United States Army and Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
