Wayne A. Cekola, 80, of Washington, died Tuesday, July 9, 2024. He was born August 10, 1943, in Monessen, a son of the late John J. Cekola and Elma Pinasko Cekola. Wayne graduated from Monessen High School, Class of 1961, and was a graduate of Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics in Pittsburgh. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Wayne was a lead mechanic, working for Mohawk Airlines, Allegheny Airlines, and US Airlines, from where he retired. He was a Byzantine Catholic by faith. Wayne enjoyed playing baseball and was an avid hunter. His hobbies included farming, metal detecting, and beekeeping. He was also a Boy Scout Master and a member of Canoe Trails. He was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 in Washington. Wayne’s late wife, Ronaele DeiCas Cekola, died February 18, 2014. She is interred in Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Cecil Township, where he will also rest. A sister, Elsie Cekola Miller, who is also deceased. Surviving are two sons, Wayne A. Cekola II and John L. Cekola; a daughter, Amy B. Cekola-Miah; four grandchildren, Anisa, Nura, Ryyan and Hana Miah; and a sister, Elma “Babe” Cekola Studnicki; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 9 to 11:00 a.m., the time of service, Wednesday, July 17, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Interment will follow in The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. Military Honors will be accorded by American Legion Post 175.
