Walter “Duke” Lucas, Jr., 78, of Washington, died Friday, April 2, 2021 at Washington Hospital. He was born September 3, 1942, in Washington, the son of the late Walter and Georgia B. Gatten Lucas, Sr. Walter graduated from Washington High School and proudly served his country with the Army Infantry. He is retired from Consolidated Coal. He was a member of the Washington American Legion, Post #175, Houston American Legion, and the Slovak Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved his Maltese mix dog, Bubba. On May 23, 1970, Walter married Marsha D. Manes, who survives. Also surviving are sons, Jeffery S. Lucas (Peggy Popeck) of Washington, Jeremy J. Lucas of Tucson, AZ, and Joshua W. (Nikita) Lucas of West Alexander; a brother, David W. Lucas of Ruff Creek; sisters, Mary Ellen (George) Murr of Washington, and Gloria J. McBride of Florida; grandsons, Dylan M. Lucas, and Brayden J. Lucas; granddaughter, Skyler R. Lucas; and many nieces and nephews. Walter was preceded in death by his brother, Kenny Lucas. At the request of the deceased, all services are private.
