Thomas E. Piatt of Washington died Saturday, October 14, 2023, at home surrounded by his family, following a four-year illness. Mr. Piatt was born February 25, 1943, the son of Thomas H. Piatt. He was raised by his grandparents, Maude and Edward W. Piatt, and fraternal aunts, Edna (Jim) Wylie and Eleanor (Harold) Burt. Tom was a 1961 graduate of Trinity High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1961-1964. On September 26, 1986, he married Jane Ann Gibson Dennis, who survives. Tom was a dedicated family man who dearly loved his children and grandchildren. He was his happiest surrounded by his family. He is survived by two children, Robert (Christina) Dennis of Morgantown, WV, and Carrie Fisher (Paul Henry), of Washington; grandchildren, Luke Dennis-Fritz (Samantha Wolf), of Clinton, Akira Wheeler (Connor Shinn), of Beloit, OH, and Ethan Dennis, of Whiteman Air Force Base, Missouri. Tom was looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandchild, Hudson Thomas Shinn in December. He is also survived by a cousin, Kathy Capozzoli (Larry); several nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Ralph Parise. He is preceded in death by his two feline friends, Scamper and Missy, who are happily reunited now. Tom was an avid Harley Davidson rider, as long as his health permitted. He went on many long rides with the men and women of the local HOG chapter. He was a lifetime member of the National Harley Davidson Owners Group. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Washington, and of the Washington Sportsmen Club. The family would like to thank Concordia Hospice nurses and staff for the care and compassion they provided for Tom and his family for the past nine months. Friends will be received Wednesday, October 18, 2023, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301. There will be a visitation Thursday, October 19, 12-1 pm followed by the service at 1 pm. At the request of the deceased, family and friends are to attend in casual dress. Interment will be in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, with Military Honors accorded by the Army and American Legion, Post 175, Washington.
