Thomas Joseph Matthews, Jr.

Thomas Joseph Matthews, Jr., 61, of Washington, died Monday, December 18, 2017, in South Hill Rehabilitation Center. He was born February 28, 1956, in Canonsburg, a son of Thomas Joseph Matthews, Sr., and the late Allegra Daily Matthews. Mr. Matthews was a graduate of Trinity High School and California University of Pennsylvania, where he earned Master’s Degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science.  A veteran of the Army, he was a former President of Paralyzed Veterans of American and a former board member of TRIPIL (Tri County Patriots for Independent Living). Mr. Matthews enjoyed fishing, volunteering for disability organizations, and old cars. He was a member of Friendship Community Church. Surviving, in addition to his father, are a son, Ryan Gandleman; a daughter, Alisha Sienkiel; four sisters, Shonda (Sam) Wilkinson, Letecia Vankirk, Joanne Longstreath and Kimberly (Sam) Spino, all of Washington; best friend, Elizabeth Gandleman of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to his mother, is a brother, James Edward Matthews. Friends will be received on Thursday, December 21st, from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m., the time of service, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Mike Matthews officiating.  Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
