Thomas E. “Tom” Hartzog Sr., 94, of Canton Township, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024, in his home. He was born February 21, 1930, in West Alexander, a son of the late James Hartzog and Anna Clemens Hartzog. Tom was a proud U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He retired from McVehil Plumbing, where he worked as a plumber. Tom loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed watching old war movies and listening to country music. In his younger days, he enjoyed working on a dairy farm. His wife, Esther M. Yeater Hartzog, is deceased. Surviving are two sons, Thomas E. (Bonnie) Hartzog Jr. and James (Lisa) Hartzog; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Deceased, in addition to his wife and parents, are four brothers and two sisters. Tom was the last of his immediate family. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Home, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2024. Burial with military honors will follow in Washington Cemetery.
