Theresa Elizabeth Powers

Theresa Elizabeth “Betty” Sonson Powers, 91, of Washington, passed away April 23, 2023, in Allegheny General Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born March 21, 1932, in Washington, the daughter of the late Frank and Lula Longo Sonson. A 1950 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, Betty attended Washington Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at Washington Hospital for many years, retiring as an admissions clerk. She was a lifetime member of Immaculate Conception Church, a member of the School Alumni Association, a member of #95 FOP auxiliary, where she was an officer, and a volunteer at John F. Kennedy Catholic School for many years. Betty enjoyed sewing, dancing, and cooking, and loved sharing her Italian heritage. On April 26, 1955, she married Thomas E. Powers, Sr., who died February 24, 2007. Surviving are three daughters, Francine Powers (Greg Jordan), of Mechanicsburg, Anna Marie Bonner (Ed), of Canonsburg, Nancy Robinson (William), of Atlantis, FL: a son, Thomas E. Powers, Jr. (Janet), of Bethel Park; grandchildren, Brooke (Gwynn) Riley, Mitchell Powers, Patrick (Courtney) Bonner, Alexis Powers, and Elizabeth Robinson; great-grandchildren, Briar Bonner, Coraline Bonner, Abigail Theresa Bonner, Rhys Riley; and a sister-in-law, Genevieve Sonson, of Scott Township. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Vincent, Sam, and Frank Sonson, Mary Liberatore, and Lula Ann Snyder. A special thank you for the exceptional care shown to Betty from Debbie, MaryLou, and Joanne. Family and friends will be received Friday, April 28, 2023, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 29th in Immaculate Conception Church at 11 am with Father Michael Peck as celebrant. Memorial contributions may be made to John F. Kennedy Catholic School, 111 W. Spruce Street, Washington, PA 15301. Interment will be private.
