Stanley Mousetis

July 3, 1929 — March 6, 2018

Stanley Mousetis, originally from Washington, entered heaven on Tuesday, March 6, 2018.  His big, caring, Godly heart finally earned its rest.    Affectionately known as Mousie, dad, Popou, Pop, Pro-Popou, Coach, and Mr. Mouse, he leaves a legacy of a large loving family, being a hard working, positive role model to many, and a major presence in the world of high school and collegiate wrestling as an athlete, official, and coach.   Stanley was the son of Xenophon and Angela Mousetis, both immigrants from the Greek island of Icaria.  They preceded him in death along with five brothers, one sister, two amazing wives (his words), Alice Dubelle and Gretchen McDowell, and one beloved granddaughter, Carmen Rizzi.    Stan lived in Washington, Bellefonte, and Lancaster, PA. He worked at everything from being a delivery boy, to packing glass at Atlas Glass Factory, to running his uncle’s restaurant and age 16, to being a gandy dancer on the railroad, lugging Wearever cookware around on the bus, to working in the kitchen at F&M College to pay for his room and board.  Finally, and sometimes during all this and more, he was a teacher, truant officer, cross-country and wrestling coach.   He is survived by one sister in California, Lee Blanas, six children with Alice, his first wife, Mike (Jeannie), Steve (Cindy), Tim (Bobbi), John (Adele), Lori Mousetis and Helen (Joe) Rizzi, 15 grandchildren and spouses, 14 great grandchildren, with 3 more on the way. Family was his greatest joy on earth.  He will be eternally loved and missed by these and many extended family members and friends.   One of his favorite tee shirts read, “If you say your prayers and live a good life, when you die you will go to Washington, PA”. He is getting his wish because he did.   Friends will be received Monday, March 12th from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd. Washington, PA. A Celebration of Life service will be at Abundant Life Baptist Church, 269 Cameron Road, Washington, PA, at 10:30am on Tuesday, March 13, 2018. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Stanley’s name to St. Jude’s or Shriner’s hospitals, the ASPCA, Smile Train, or Victory Family Church in Lancaster, PA.
