Shirley Comstock Desmond, 84, of Washington, died February 6, 2024, in The Washington Hospital. She was born July 14, 1939, a daughter of the late Marlin “Bud” Comstock and Evelyn Wright Comstock. Mrs. Desmond was a member of The Church of the Covenant, where she was a Bible study leader and sang in the choir. A teacher, she taught at Washington High School for 38 years. Mrs. Desmond loved traveling, dancing, gospel music and social networking, but, most of all, loved spending time with friends and family. On June 15, 1968, she married James Desmond, who died May 9, 2007. Surviving are a son, James Paul Desmond (daughter-in-law Kathy Desmond); a daughter, Diana Desmond Cramer; three brothers, Richard (Bonnie) Comstock, Daniel Comstock, and George (Linda) Comstock; a sister, Betty (Richard) Crompton; three grandchildren, Brandon Lee Cramer, Dustin Rhodes and Codie Rhodes; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, February 12th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 12th, with Pastor Billy Younger officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
