Sarah Ruth Miles, 87, of Washington, died peacefully November 21, 2023, in Presbyterian Senior Care, Southmont. She was born September 14, 1936, in Washington, daughter of the late Thomas & Sarah Elizabeth Sickles, and graduated from Trinity High School. Mrs. Miles was employed at GC Murphy's, but she excelled at being a homemaker. She could often be found in the kitchen baking and preparing meals for her family, but all were welcome at her table. She was strong in faith and an active member of church, most recently Calvary Baptist. For many years she volunteered at AWANA and Summer Church Camp. Affectionately referred to as Nana by all who knew her, her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren blossom. She was happiest spending time interacting with them, especially reading, coloring, and singing. Nana enjoyed drinking tea, often on her porch shaded by her morning glories. Nana's hands were always busy, whether she was crocheting blankets to be treasured by all who received them, scrapbooking, or building puzzles. Her penmanship was lovely, and she kept meticulous notes about important matters and phone calls. On October 12, 1957, Sarah married Glenn Edward Miles, who passed away only a few weeks before her. They shared nearly 66 years of marriage. Also surviving are sons, Bryan (Dawn) Miles, and Edward (Jennifer) Miles; daughters, Beth (David) Hilty, and Trudy (Robert) Hanna; brothers-in-law, Richard (Sue) Miles, and John Miles; sister-in-law, Carol McClain; grandchildren, Joshua Carson-Hanna (Justin), Nicholas Phillips (Tara), Nicole Grant (Steve), Zachary Miles, Matthew Miles (Bonnie), Samantha Provance (Justin), Bayli Miles (Ryan Thomasson), and Jonathan and Elliana Hilty; great-grandchildren, Easton and Kaden Phillips, Eloise and Norah Grant, Rowan Miles Thomasson, Alex Miles and Annabel Manderick, and Gabby, Max and Roman Provance. In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Miles; daughter, Lisa Phillips (Randall Phillips); and brothers, Norman (Sonny) Sickles, Thomas Sickles, James (Jim) Sickles, and Jack Sickles. Family and friends will be received Friday, November 24, 2023, 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301. Services will be on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1701 Ridgewood Dr, Washington, PA 15301 at 11:00 AM. Lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
