Sara Yvonne "Bonnie" Harris

Sara Yvonne “Bonnie” Harris, 90 of Washington, died Monday, September 10, 2018 at home. She was born October 9, 1927 in Washington, the daughter of the late Harold and LaVina Bristor. Sara attended Trinity High School and left during WWII at age 16 to work in the Hazel Atlas #1 factory, while the men left to fight the war. She worked as Auxiliary Police Officer during the war, evacuating the street during air raids. She also worked as Personnel Manager at Grants and Banquet Manager at the George Washington Hotel. Sara was very active in fund raising for the American Cancer Society, Wounded Warrior Project and Turner Syndrome Society of the U.S. She was a member of the Red Hats Society and baptized at Broad Street Baptist Church In 1959, she married, Norman Paul Harris, who died June 28, 2015. Surviving are two sons, Jeffrey (Peggy) Harris of West Alexander, Patrick (Donna) Harris of Washington; a daughter, Beth Ann Suhon of Canonsburg; a step son, Mark (Jan) Harris of Big Bear, CA; 8 grandchildren, Christopher (Nikki) Phillips of Washington, Alexandria Moore, with whom she shared her home; Gina Suhon of Palm Bay, FL, Maria Suhon of Canonsburg, Sgt. Scott (Shaley) Harris of Fort Hood, TX, Gunnar Harris of Fort Collins, CO, Sara Harris of Claysville, Tina Panarella of Erie; 6 step grandchildren, Zeke, Shandori and Jennifer Harris of Big Bear, CA, George (Aprile) Suhon of Coroapolis, Richard (Nicole) Suhon of Imperial, Andrew (Jen) Suhon of Washington, Christina (Shane) Fowler of Pittsburgh;  4 great grandchildren, Jacob Rudy, Candille Rudy, Samuel Harris and Brooklynn Harris; an uncle, Lonnie Bristor of Washington; six nephews, Michael, Ronald, Thomas, Joseph, Edward and Bill Harris; four nieces, Cheryl Johnston, Tracy Desmond, Jody Polen and Lisa Harris; several cousins including, June Harris (Keith) McGill; a  close neighbor she considered family, Vickie Logsdon; the Core family in Michigan and the extended Bristor family and a caregiver, Suzi Doak. Deceased in addition to her parents and husband are a son, John Robert Murphy; step son, Doug Harris; grandson, Mikel Rudy; son in law, George Suhon. Friends will be received Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., where services will be held Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with John Wright officiating.
