Ryan Wm. Gandelman, 37, of Washington, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in UPMC Shadyside, Pittsburgh, after a 9-year battle with cancer, which he fought with courage and dignity. He was born September 2, 1987, in Washington, a son of Elizabeth A. Gandelman of Washington and the late Timothy P. Mulloy. Ryan earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Bethany College and was employed as a cook at Solomon’s from high school until 2017. He was a devout Christian and grew up at the Church of the Covenant in Washington. As an adult, he was baptized in water at Central Assembly of God in Houston, Pennsylvania. Ryan was a classically trained pianist and played the keyboard in his rock band “White Picket Fence.” He loved his dog, Sugar Bear, his cat, Wolfie, and his African Grey parrot, Paula. He enjoyed taking long walks with Sugar Bear, kayaking, fishing, music, and bible study with his mom. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his sister, Stephenie Alisha Sienkiel; two uncles, Jon Pat Mulloy and Cletus Mulloy; his aunt, Mary Lisa Borgstadt; a loyal and faithful friend, India Perry; and a family friend, Charles E. Schwering. Deceased, in addition to his father, are his maternal grandmother, Shirley Ann Martin; his paternal grandparents, Cletus and Madelyn Mulloy; his uncle, Kevin Mulloy; and his stepfather, Thomas J. Matthews Jr. Ryan was the bravest person who fought his battle with cancer with the help of the wonderful doctors and staff at Hillman Cancer Center and UPMC Shadyside Hospital. The care Ryan received at Hillman Cancer Center and UPMC Shadyside was exceptional. A special thank you to Dr. Weber and his Nurse Morgan from UPMC Home Health Care. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, September 23, 2024, with Pastor Debra Bilodeau officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
