Ruth Elaine Garber

November 18, 1932 — February 13, 2025

Ruth E. Garber, age 92, of Washington, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, in Woodside Place. Ruth was born on November 18, 1932, to Wayne B. and Myra Turner Hodgens. She grew up in Taylorstown and graduated from Trinity High School. On November 1, 1950, she married Harry K. Garber, who died August 29, 1993. Growing up Ruth was a member of the Taylorstown Presbyterian Church. Her first job at age 15 was with the Taylorstown Telephone Company which was located in her home. She went on to work at the Washington Water Office, was a School Bus Driver for the McGuffey School District, and Ball Glass where she retired. Later in life Ruth lived for 12 years in Phoenix, Arizona. She lived in a retirement community, called the Sunflower Resort, where she worked in their Post Office. She was a member of a card club with three of her best friends. She also greatly enjoyed puzzles, reading, hiking and biking. Ruth is survived by four children, Diane (Willie) Burnette of Washington, Janice (James) Jackson of Canonsburg, Jeff (Yasemin) Garber of Cary, NC, and Gary (Christine) Garber of Washington. Three sisters, Jane (the late Bill) Ashmore of Claysville, Judy (Chuck) Sorrels of Colorado Springs, CO, and Linda (the late Jerry) Seaman of Claysville. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Christy (Mike McKay) O’Brien Gray of Washington, Jennifer (Ken) Marsh of Washington, Christopher (Cindy Halboth) Jackson of Bethel Park, Jesse (Vanessa) Jackson of Canonsburg, Sarah (Lewis Shuman) Jackson of Washington, Rachel (Quinn Heffern) Jackson of Carnegie, Emma (Robbie Jones) Jackson of Washington, Matthew Garber of Washington, and Michael (Maddie) Garber of Phoenix, Arizona, nineteen great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, Jessie Pattison, Emily (Brenda) Wallace, Mary Lou Stetson and one great-grandchild Lane Kenneth Fisher. The family of Ruth would like to express sincere thanks to the staff of Woodside Place, Gateway Hospice and Sandy Ruschell-Bertosh for the compassionate care they have provided to Ruth over the years.
