Ruth E. Bernett, 93, of Washington, died February 10, 2023, in Washington Hospital Emergency Department. She was born June 18, 1929, in Latrobe, the daughter of the late William and Pearl Weaver Dunn. A graduate of Hurst High School in Westmoreland County, she later continued her education at Waynesburg University and became an LPN. Ruth worked at Washington County Health Center, where she subsequently retired. She attended the Central Assembly of God Church for many years. Ruth had many interests. She loved quilting and was an avid member of Martha Washington Quilters Guild. A Steeler fan, she also enjoyed sewing, reading, baking, and traveling. She was well known for her homemade bread. Ruth loved children and enjoyed family functions. She is survived by two sons, George A. Bernett, Jr. (Nancy), and John “Scott” Bernett (Kim); two daughters, Sharon L. Houston (Ron), and Janice S. Jones; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandra Freeman (Chuck), and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Bernett, Sr.; a daughter, Ruth Ann Jones; a son, Richard Frank Bernett; grandchildren, Brandon Scott Bernett, and Lauren Elizabeth Bernett; great-granddaughter, Sarah Grace Houston; and siblings, William Dunn, Thomas Dunn, and Naida Peffer. Family and friends will be received Monday, February 13, 2023, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, the place of service, Tuesday, February 14th at 10 am. Interment to follow in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Trauger.
