Ruth Ann Aiken

Ruth Ann Martin Aiken, 94, of Washington, died on January 28, 2021, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care. She was born on February 27, 1926, in Washington, a daughter of the late Ashley Joshua and Juanita Parcell Martin. She lived in Donora until the fifth grade, when her family moved to Washington. Ruth Ann attended East Washington High School, and was a 1944 graduate of the Washington Female Seminary, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. A woman who had a great sense of humor, and loved animals, especially dogs, Ruth Ann enjoyed singing, listening to her favorite music, reading mysteries, yardwork, and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Mrs. Aiken was a member of the Washington Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, and enjoyed being a toy buyer for the gift shop there, she had also sold Fuller brushes door-to-door, where she often made more friends than sales. On June 11, 1947, she married John Aiken III, who died December 17, 2002. Surviving are a son, John Aiken IV, and his wife, Susan; a daughter, Melinda Baker, and her husband, Rick; three grandchildren, Jason Parcell (Tonya) Baker, David John Aiken and Lauren Elizabeth (Vincent) Wetzel; a great grandchild, Jakob Tomarick Baker; as well as several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Becky Duncan. Deceased are a brother, Ashley Joshua Martin, Jr.; and a sister, Elizabeth Jane Sharp. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church 1793 – Organ Fund, 100 E. Wheeling St., Washington, PA 15301; Citizen’s Library, 55 S. College St., Washington, PA; or the Washington Area Humane Society, P.O. Box 66, Eighty-Four, PA 15330.
