Ronald Oakley Allison, 90, of Prosperity, died Friday, September 14, 2018, in Donnell House. He was born February 21, 1928, in Washington, a son of George and Ressie Day Lemon. Mr. Allison attended Trinity High School. He was a World War II veteran of the Navy, serving from January 16, 1946, until his honorable discharge on November 12, 1947, with a rank of Seaman, first class. He served on the USS Kishwaukee and was awarded a World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Allison worked as a mechanic and service manager for Scott Motors and retired from Union Camp Paper Company. He enjoyed golfing, spending time at his cabin in the mountains, and woodworking. He made hundreds of wood crafts and furniture, many at special requests. He enjoyed making small wooden angels that he would give to people he would see or meet in his travels. Mr. Allison was a devoted member of Upper Ten Mile Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge 447 in Claysville and American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175, and a lifetime member of Anawanna Hunting and Fishing Club. On June 21, 1952, he married Mary Elizabeth Lightner, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Tim (Colleen) Allison of Hickory and Terry (Jeannie) Allison of Washington; a daughter, Karen Allison Gorby of Washington; seven grandchildren, Lori (Todd) DeGarmo, Lisa Gorby, Preston (Jerica) Allison, Camden Allison, and John, Erin and Jared Allison; four great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Caleb DeGarmo and Colt and Camilla Allison. Deceased are an infant daughter, Susan Diane Allison, and a brother, Donald E. Allison. Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Thursday, September 20th, in Upper Ten Mile Presbyterian Church, Prosperity, with Pastor Larry Deemer officiating. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
