Roger Duane Gill

We lovingly say farewell to Roger Duane Gill, 82, of Washington, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024, in Washington Hospital emergency room. He was born June 24, 1942, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Burton A. Gill and Freda M. Boop Gill. Roger served in the U.S. Navy and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He was employed by U.S. Steel in Homestead as a machinist, and later had worked at Washington Machine and Tool. Roger was a very active member of Immaculate Conception Church, St. James Parish, where he was a eucharistic minister. He also was a member of American Legion Post 175, and member and treasurer of the Washington Camera Club. He was a handyman who enjoyed photography, woodworking and flying model airplanes. He loved traveling with the camera club and church for various photo shoots. On November 28, 1964, he married Marion E. O’Donnell Gill, who survives. They just celebrated 60 years of marriage. Also surviving are his children, Mary (Johnny) Morris of Edgewater, Florida, Michael (Tammy) Gill of Washington and Nora Beth Gill of Washington; his grandchildren, Dylan (Leah Schrimpf) Holmes of Providence, Rhode Island, Carly (James Evans) Holmes of Washington, Michael Gill Jr. of Washington, Adam Gill of Washington and David Gill of Washington; a great-grandchild, James Evans; a sister, Beverly (the late John) Garwood of Roseville, California; and his nieces and nephews, Gary Gill, Donnie Gill, Pam Dalcin-Walling, Candace Pelfrey and Dustin Garwood. Deceased are his brother, Ronald Gill, and his grandmother, Lavina Christina Boop. All services are private and entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.
