Roberta Kathleen “Bertie” Bannister, 89, of Washington, died May 15, 2023, in Evergreen, Washington. She was born October 29, 1933, in Washington, the daughter of the late Oliver S. and Mabel Runnion Huggins. Bertie attended Trinity High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of New Hope Church and sang in the choir for decades. She and her husband ran a group at church called Young at Hearts. She was a member of Lagonda Homemakers, the church dartball team, numerous bowling leagues, card clubs, and enjoyed square dancing. On July 2, 1950, Bertie married Arthur R. Bannister, who died April 28, 2003, after over 50 years of marriage. Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Willis (John), and Candis “Candi” Borkowski (Gary); grandchildren, Heidi Simon, Christy Lamatrice (Dave), Michael Borkowski, Justin Bannister (Trish), Brad Willis (Robyn), Seth Bannister (Nancy), Roberta Rybicki (Jon), Zachary Bannister (Jamie); great-grandchildren, Alexis Borkowski, Nikola Rybicki, Walter Rybicki, Preston Simon, Parker Simon, Tessa Simon, Sofia Lamatrice, Stella Lamatrice, Sami Schrader, Ali Willis, Kennedy Willis, Reese Willis, Addison Bannister, Colin Bannister, and Jackson Bannister. Preceding Bertie in death was a son, A. Richard Bannister and a brother, W. Richard Huggins. The family wishes to thank the staff of Evergreen and Concordia Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Bertie. Family and friends will be received Thursday, May 18, 2023, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where a service will be held Friday, May 19th at 11:30 am with Pastor Tom Bellhy officiating. Interment to follow in Washington Cemetery.
