Robert "Gerry" Gerald Butler, Sr.

April 2, 1934 — February 24, 2022

Robert Gerald “Gerry” Butler, Sr., 87, died peacefully on February 24, 2022, of Alzheimer’s disease, which darkened his brilliant mind. His beloved wife and family were at his side. He was born on April 2, 1934, in Mt. Lebanon, PA, son of the late Loyal G. and Ora Marguerite Sutton Butler. On November 21, 1956, he married the love of his life, June Crow, who survives. They had celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage. A 1952 graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School, Gerry went on to earn a degree in electrical engineering from Carnegie Tech University, where he played on the football team. Drafted by the Cleveland Browns, he declined their contract offer to serve two years in the United States Army, working with special weapons in Albuquerque, NM. While working in Erie, PA, he invented a patented pollution control device for power plants that he installed worldwide. He served as a Boy Scout Leader of Pack 333 in Millcreek, PA, for many years and inspired many young men through his work. He coached baseball, wrestling and basketball, and was the President of the McDowell High School Boosters’ Club, which provided funding and support for the sports teams there. He made and repaired horse saddles, and enjoyed riding horses. He also liked scuba diving and working on cars, especially his MGB. He enjoyed target shooting as well. What he enjoyed most, however, was being surrounded by his family. Gerry strived for excellence in everything he did and asked for the same in those around him He leaves behind two children, Rebecca (James) Restifo, and Bryan (Gail Wolfe) Butler; five grandchildren, Nicholas Restifo, Alexander Restifo, Ryan (Amanda) Butler, Sarah Butler, and Adam Butler; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, Robert G. Butler, Jr., and two brothers, Glenn Butler and Theodore Butler. Mr. Butler was a member of Claysville United Presbyterian Church. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, March 12, 2022, in Claysville United Presbyterian Church, 134 Wayne St., Claysville, PA, with Rev. Dr. Jerome Creach officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to Claysville United Presbyterian Church, the Alzheimer’s Association or the Humane Society. Online guestbook may be found at www.NealFuneralHome.com.
