Richard “Midnight” Ross, 86, of Washington, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024, following a courageous eight-year battle with cancer. Born May 11, 1938, he was the son of the late Guy and Gertrude Ross of Scenery Hill. Richard was a Trinity High School graduate. He served his country in the Army, followed by a 33-year career driving tractor trailer for Fairmont Supply, until his retirement in 2000. Richard loved having an ice-cold beer with his buddies at the club and was a proud fan of all Pittsburgh Sports Teams, especially the Steelers, having been a season ticket holder for more than 50 years. But his ultimate passion was his grandchildren. His face lit up when anyone of them entered a room. On June 3, 1961, he married Elaine Thompson, who passed away May 30, 2012, just shy of their 51st wedding anniversary. Surviving are two sons, Barry (Lori) Ross of Washington and Brad (Jamie) Ross of Venetia; a daughter, Darlene (Michael) Skerbetz of Bentleyville; three brothers, Gene (Kathy) Ross of Scenery Hill, Charlie (Elinor) Ross of Scenery Hill and Dave (Sandy) Ross of Washington; and nine grandchildren, Jacob, Bailey, Shaelyn, Katie, Kolten, and Parker Ross, Grace and Ross Skerbetz, and Brianna (Jimmy) Brach. Deceased are his wife, Elaine T. Ross; his parents, Guy and Gertrude Ross; and his brothers, Dan Ross and Donald Ross. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 2024, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2024. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
