Richard Lee McVay, 86, of Washington, died Saturday, December 17, 2022, in Premier Washington Health Center. He was born June 10, 1936, in Washington, a son of the late William and Freda Headley McVay. Mr. McVay was a 1955 graduate of Washington High School and attended Bowling Green University and Washington and Jefferson College. He was a 29-year retiree from Drankenfeld Colors-Ciba Geigy, and spent nine years in security at W&J College. Richard was very passionate about sports, playing football, baseball, basketball, and wrestling while in high school. He carried that passion forward to coaching, while spending almost 30 years at Washington Boys Baseball and the Brownson House Football programs. On August 14, 1957, he married the love of his life, Carolyn Kathleen Lyke, who passed away December 30, 2021. Surviving are two sons, Mark (Diane) McVay of North Carolina and Randy McVay of Washington; five grandchildren, Kristi (Mike) Phelix, Justin (Laura) Beveridge, Raun Ashlee (Sam) Hawk, Jordan (Char) McVay, and Kendra Rayne McVay; six great-grandchildren, Parker, Adissyn, Easton, Jesse, Wyatt, and Tyler. Also surviving are two brothers, David “Lloyd” McVay and Jerry McVay. Deceased are two brothers, Robert and Bill, and a grandson, Ryan Hopkins. A funeral service will be held at 10 am., Friday, December 23rd, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to your local youth sports programs.
