Richard Mathis, 94, of Washington, passed away Friday, June 21, 2024. He was born March 16, 1930, in Manifold, PA, son of the late Adam Mathis and Beatrice Carson Mathis. Richard was known for his abilities to have a conversation with anyone he met, telling jokes, and being a great storyteller! He had worked as a mill worker for McGraw Edison for many years and Peter Pan Cleaners as a truck driver. In his later years, he enjoyed and worked as a school bus driver. Richard was a past master of Masonic Lodge 39, Shriners and Knights Templar. Surviving are two daughters, Christine (James) Matthews and Dawn Younger; Godson, Andrew Taylor; a sister, Barbara Johnson; five grandchildren, Jasmine, Richard, Alexis, Iris and Eagan; a great-granddaughter, Helen Bray; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are his longtime companion, Mary Ann Decker; five brothers; and two sisters. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2024, in Washington Cemetery Mausoleum. Everyone attending the service is asked to please meet in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, at 9:30 a.m., to proceed to cemetery.
